Finca La Marquesa is a pioneering specialty coffee farm located in the pristine mountain town of San Pedro de Vilcabamba, in Ecuador’s Loja province. Founded in 2015 by Ximena León—a third-generation coffee grower—and her husband Hubert Ontaneda, an accomplished post-harvest expert and Cup of Excellence judge, the farm is the embodiment of legacy and innovation. Built on 3.5 hectares of steep hillside land surrounded by Podocarpus National Park, the couple transformed what was once untouched terrain into one of Ecuador’s most experimental and awarded coffee farms. Their shared vision: to showcase the heights of Ecuadorian coffee excellence to the world.
This particular lot is a naturally processed Gesha, a variety celebrated for its delicate florals and layered sweetness. The cherries were carefully hand-selected at peak ripeness and sun-dried for several weeks on raised beds under constant supervision. Thanks to the high elevation, cool nights, and crisp mountain air, the beans dried slowly and evenly, absorbing the full spectrum of the fruit’s sugars and aromatics. This slow drying technique, combined with Hubert’s deep processing expertise, has resulted in a cup that bursts with notes of jasmine blossom, strawberry, blackberry, fig, and melon. It’s an elegant showcase of both varietal potential and terroir-driven character.
What makes this Gesha even more meaningful is the human story behind it. Ximena and Hubert, along with their children, live and work full-time on the farm, bringing multigenerational passion and scientific precision to every step—from seed selection to export preparation. Their coffees consistently score above 88 points and are sought after by roasters who value transparency, traceability, and craft. By offering this micro-lot, we bring you a rare taste of Ecuador’s emerging coffee renaissance and support a family whose commitment to excellence is helping to redefine the global perception of Ecuadorian coffee.
